Refugio A. Hernandez, age 87, of Austin, Texas passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. He was born on July 4, 1930 in Hornsby Bend, Texas.

He was preceded in death by, daughter Yolanda L. Hernandez, Parents, Alvino and Benita Hernandez, Brothers Francisco and Valentino Hernandez.

He is survived by his wife, Micaela L. Hernandez, the love of his life for more than 64 years, daughter, Toni Hernandez-Holder, husband Bob, Grandchildren, Steven and Amanda Salazar and Step Grandchildren, Trey and Tatum Lane, Robert Holder II. Sister Juanita H. Tapia, brother, Alvino Hernandez and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a myriad of friends.

Refugio served as a Staff Sargent in the United States Air Force from 1948-1952.

He graduated from Austin High School in 1948 and from Nixon Clay College in Austin with a degree in Accounting and further pursued his CPA degree, graduating in 1958.

Refugio was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir and in several leadership positions in the church.

Refugio was retired from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners where he served as a translator.

The family would like to thank Dr. William D. Mayer, Dr. Sridhar Reddy and Dr. Mangesh Bhatta as well as the staff of St. David's Hospital for their love and compassion.

The family wishes to acknowledge the presence of Marcos and Frances Villalobos and family from Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Visitation with the family will be held from 2:00-3:30 PM followed by Prayer Service at 3:30 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78752.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 200 Brushy Street, Austin, Texas 78702.
