Lizabeth "Lynne" Glassford Christy
1940 - 2018

Early Life: Lynne was born July 28, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Guy Carleton and Marjorie Robinson Glassford.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: In 1962, she married Captain Howard Allan "Al" Christy at the Marine Corps Air Facility El Toro in California. They were sealed in the Los Angeles California Temple ten months later. Lynne and Al established homes where he was stationed in Reno, Nevada; Laie, Hawaii; Pearl City, Hawaii; Laguna Beach, California; and Reston, Virginia. When Al retired from the Marine Corps in 1975, they made their home in the Edgemont area of Provo, Utah. Lynne earned two English degrees: A bachelor's from Utah State University in 1962 and a master's from Brigham Young University in 1996. During her 20s, she taught junior high school in Reno and team-taught primary school at the cutting-edge Top of the World Elementary School in Laguna Beach, California. Later, for 32 years, she taught English at BYU. She loved her students and they loved her. She also cherished her relationships with her colleagues in the English Department, where hard work was accompanied by plenty of laughter. During her 30s and early 40s, Lynne helped many people improve their health and well-being through her warm coaching as a Diet Center counselor. She also built a real estate investment business that still flourishes. Lynne served as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints faithfully and energetically right up through the last week of her life. She dearly loved the Edgemont 14th Ward, where she and Al lived for 43 years. Her many callings included Scout leader, Young Women leader and Relief Society president. She always found ways to add laughter and not a few shenanigans to her service with other ward members, young and old. Long ago, she came to be the "matriarch" of the ward as the sister living the longest in its boundaries. Throughout her adult life, Lynne kept fit by running and walking daily up and down and through the neighborhoods surrounding Quail Valley. She almost always did this with dear 14th Ward pals, solving the problems of the world and helping each other through life's difficulties as they went. She ran several marathons, including the Boston Marathon. During the last seven years, Lynne and Al traveled to many parts of the world, gaining new friends and wonderful memories. She loved the sand and the sea, and Hawaii was like a second home to her. Lynne and Al sailed across the Atlantic to Europe, toured Israel, and visited Australia, New Zealand and Chile. Truth be known, these last two destinations were not just for fun. She also wanted to pay just a little visit, with permission, to each of her two oldest grandsons serving LDS missions there. Lynne had to endure a lot of pain in her later years, owing to incurable arthritis in her back and a second and third bout with breast cancer. She suffered quietly and bravely, so as not to burden others. But at the end, when the spread of cancer was determined to be unstoppable, she allowed the battle to end that she might finally be released from great pain. She humbly requested and received a blessing that she might have this release. The next day, her last full day on this earth, was magnificent. Lynne was alert and inexplicably free of pain while receiving family members and ever so many dear friends rushing to be by her side. For hours, her joy seemed almost boundless. At the close of the day, she slept peacefully, and, surrounded by her family, quietly slipped away. Lizabeth "Lynne" Glassford Christy of Provo, Utah, passed away Saturday morning, January 6, 2018, at Utah Valley Hospital after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer.
Survived By: Her husband, Al; her children: Caroline Otto (Tim), Bruce Christy (Aimee), Megen Peterson (Michael), Carleton Christy (Ashlie), and her sole sibling and bosom friend, Carleton Glassford (Sherryl). She is already missed by her twelve grandchildren: Bruce Christy, Nicholas Peterson, Keaton Otto, Dane Otto, Mallory Peterson, Carter Peterson, Coleman Christy, Emma Christy, Mila Christy, Guy Christy, Eva Christy and James Peterson.
