Lubbock- Roger Dale Reeves was born December 29, 1947 to O.R. "Buddy" Reeves and Robbie Jo Reeves in Lubbock, TX. After a long battle, he took on with fortitudine and exemplified through his reverberant "God's got this" proclamation, he went home to his Lord and Savior on January 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family in Lubbock. We know Devon ran into his open arms on his arrival home.
He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 47 years, Patricia "Tricia" Ann Reeves. He also leaves behind their children: Shawn M. Reeves and wife Lynette of Ropesville, TX; Kyle M. Reeves and wife Wendy of Wolfforth, TX; Brent L. Reeves and wife Carame of Lubbock, TX; and grandchildren: Brooke, Michael, Madelyn, Ella, Jillian, Alimaquel, and Archer. He is survived by a brother, Dennis Reeves and wife Nancy of Lubbock, TX; a sister, Darla McCullough Lujan and husband Joel of Elgin, TX; brother and sister in laws: Gary and Sandra Hamilton; Mark and Lynne Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. And because Roger believed and taught us that family is not defined by blood, Jerry and Sally Newman; Arriana and husband Jordan with children Sterling and Scarlett; Sarah-Brooke and husband Kyler.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, O.R. "Buddy" Reeves and Robbie "GaGa" Jo Reeves; parents-in-law, Wilton "Papa" Ray Hamilton and Joyce "Memaw" Marie Hamilton; and one of his beloved grandchildren, his grandson, Devon.
He was a 1966 graduate of Lubbock High School, participating in football, baseball, and track; and he was awarded the prestigious Westerner Award.
47 years ago, on October 23, 1970, here in Lubbock, he married his forever and always love, Patricia "Tricia" Ann (Hamilton) Reeves. Together, they raised three good Christian and successful sons. He beamed with pride over his sons and grandchildren. He taught his sons by example to be God fearing men, loving and compassionate husbands and fathers. He raised them with words of both admonishment and praise.
He proudly served as an Infantry Rifleman in the United States Marine Corps at the Marine Corps Base in Pendleton, CA and then, CO A, 4th MtBm, 4th MarDiv, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in March, 1974. While in the Marine Corps, he was awarded the Sharp Shooter Marksmanship Badge, Expert Rifleman and Expert Pistol Badges, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal. He excelled in his proficiency and conduct ("pros and cons") consistently with 4.9/4.9 marks. He exemplified the Marine Corps values of humbly and proudly serving his country and honoring all those who continue to sacrifice and serve. He lived his life with the absolute devotion to every aspect of Semper Fidelis, always faithful. "Hoorah!"
After his military service and graduating from Texas Tech University in 1974, Roger had a successful career as a Business Management and Inventory Control Specialist for over 37 years until his retirement in 2015. He was a very proud yet humble man, who loved his Savior and his family deeper than words can express.
He was a long-standing member of Southcrest Baptist Church and a joyful member of the Southcrest Baptist Church Choir. He was a witness to the love and power of Christ through song and the deep emotions through which he sang. He served his church in many capacities throughout his years of membership.
Roger was an avid hunter. He shared his passion for hunting with his family, especially his sons. He loved spending time with his family, including all his grandchildren who brought him indescribable joy. He loved to travel and learn about history. Singing with all his body and spirit was a gift he shared with the world, and now he has joined God's heavenly choir.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
Funeral Services will be held at Southcrest Baptist Church at 2 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018 with graveside services to follow at Ropesville Cemetery with "Honoring Those Who Served" program of full Military Honors.
