Gary Dan Billingsley passed away Monday night Jan. 8, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Gary was born November 17, 1937 in Roxton, Texas to Jess Willard Billingsley and Mary Lucille (Carr) Billingsley. Gary grew up in the San Francisco area of California with his mother after his parents divorced while he was still young and his mother moved there with him. Gary graduated from Berkeley High School in Berkeley, CA. and went on to attend California State University in Fresno, CA. He later lived and worked in Long Beach, Las Vegas, Reno, and the Dallas/Ft Worth area. He loved all forms of sports and played amateur tennis. He was an athletic director of both the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach in California and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Fort Worth in Texas. He worked for a number of Security Protective Agencies in his later years. Gary had a good nature and was a laid-back kind of guy. He loved the beach and being outdoors. Gary was married twice but had no children from either marriage. His first marriage was to Joan Karen Lawson in 1971 in the San Francisco area. They divorced in 1991 in Reno, Nevada. His second marriage came late in life in 2009 to Nelda Jack (Woods) Meade. She passed away in 2013 after an extended illness. They were married in Maui, Hawaii and resided in Allen, TX. After Nelda’s death Gary moved back to Arlington, TX where he lived prior to his marriage to Nelda and where he felt at home until he was admitted to a health care facility in Paris, TX in Sep. 2017. He was transferred to a Cedar Hill, TX health care facility in Jan. 2018 where he suffered a heart attack with other complications and was admitted to Methodist Hospital in Dallas where he passed away. Proceeding Gary in death were both his parents, a half-sister Barbara Billingsley in 1965 and a half-brother Malcolm Billingsley in 2016. Surviving Gary is a step-brother Glenn Billingsley in Plano, TX. Gary will be cremated and his ashes later buried at Restland Cemetery in Roxton, Texas with other family members of both his mother and father.
