27 Mar 2007: Ira R. "Whitey" Bowman, 77, Cross Fork, formerly of Myerstown, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007, in Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Palmyra January 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mary Myers Bowman. Whitey was a founding partner of United Plastics in Manheim and Myerstown. After his retirement he started Whitey's Wife's Woodworks designing and making canopies. Whitey was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6076, Myerstown, and American Legion Post 945. Whitey enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Doris J. Schreiber Bowman; natural children Eric Bowman husband of Beverly of Myerstown, and Belinda Heppler of Elizabethtown; children by love and marriage Michelle Dalton Yedid wife of Roy and Joe Shirk both of Hummelstown, Susan Dalton Dilling wife of John of Willow Street, Michael Schreiber of MT, Connie Shirk Hoffmaster wife of Brian of Mount Joy, and Donna Shirk Jackson wife of Les of Manheim; daughter-in-law Leslie Schreiber of Cross Fork; siblings Martha and Richard Teets of Palmyra, Loretta and Richard Herr of Annville, Donna and Clancey Rentzel of Myerstown, Thomas and Gerry Bowman and Stanley and Helen Bowman of Palmyra, and John and Dee Dee Bowman of Huntingdon; 16 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Whitey was preceded in death by sons Ira Rick Bowman and Thomas Millinder; sisters Geraldine and Jeanette; and brother Robert. Memorial service Friday, March 30, at the chapel of Lebanon VA Medical Center, Rev. Kevin H. Brown, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Rutherford, officiating.
