Sophie Gulla, 85, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Suda, who passed away in 1971, and her second husband, John Gulla, who passed away in 1995.

Born and raised in Swoyersville, she lived there all her life.

She was a daughter of the late Blaise and Mary Toporek Gavlick.

Mrs. Gulla was a homemaker most of her life.

She was an avid quilter and enjoyed gardening.

She was a member of Holy Name/St. Mary’s Parish Community, Swoyersville, and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Suda, who passed away in 2001; brothers George, Val, Steve, and Joseph Gavlick; sisters Helen Yavorski, Rose Ann Chopko, and Estelle Stofko.

Surviving is her children, Mary Ann Reitz; John, Leonard, Daniel, and George Suda; and Kathleen Dolman; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Leo and Thomas Gavlick; sister Alice Matukonis; numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Name/St. Mary’s Church, 283 Shoemaker St., Swoyersville, with the Rev. Louis Grippe officiating.

Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Holy Name/St. Mary’s Church will recite the rosary this evening at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sophie’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
