Melvin W. Schoonover, 64, of 317 Willow St. died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 1996, at Sharon Elms Health Care Center in Peoria.

Born Sept. 23, 1931, in Easton to Earl and Estella Correll Schoonover, he married Karen Close on Aug. 16, 1975, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael of Pekin and Craig of Sunnyvale, Calif.; one daughter, Melanie Schoonover of Pekin; two stepsons, Robby Richie of Florida and Denny Richie; two stepdaughters, Danelle Star of Pekin and Peggy Richie of Florida; one brother, Lloyd of Los Angeles; and five grandchildren.

One daughter, Nancy Schoonover, one grandson and four brothers preceded him in death.

He was a Korean War Army veteran, serving in the First Calvary. He was a member of Pekin Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria.

He worked at Corn Products Corp. in Pekin for 25 years. He then was a machinist at Illinois Power Co. in Clinton, retiring in 1995.
