Services for Geneva Alderson Smith, 95, of Nolanville, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 10 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Pastor Jonathan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville.

Mrs. Smith passed away Thursday, January 4, at a local hospital.

Geneva Smith was born September 21, 1922 in Axtell, Texas to George Nolan Alderson and Elizabeth Vashtie Alderson. She graduated from Temple High School in 1941 in the first graduating class of the 12 year program. She married Dallas Franklin Smith in 1940. During World War II, Geneva worked as a ship builder in the San Francisco Bay area. After returning to Texas, she worked at various Temple retail stores and she also became a seamstress. She was a devout member and a key founder of Grace Abound Tabernacle. She enjoyed gardening, reading novels and was a devotional reader of the Bible. She was very involved with her family and the family’s wellbeing was very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Alderson; her husband, D.F. Smith, a brother, Dewey Alderson; two sisters, Vera Alderson Allen and Nora May Alderson Norton; and a grandson, David Cantrell.

Survivors include her son, Jonathan Franklin Smith and wife Terry; her daughter, Dessie Smith Dragoo and husband Billy; five grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 9 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Abound Tabernacle, 801 10th Street, Nolanville, Texas 76509; or to Harper-Talasek Funeral Home for Mrs. Smith’s memorial fund.
