Johnnie Hernandez, 76, of McAlester, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his son’s home. Johnnie was born on November 1, 1941 in McAlester to Linzel & Jimmie (Cameron) Hernandez. Shortly after graduating high school he entered the United States Air Force. Serving his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, Johnnie earned his retirement in 1980. He returned to McAlester and began his career at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. He worked as a supervisor in storage, shipping, and receiving until his retirement in 2000. Johnnie married Mary Hernandez on June 21, 1990 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They made their home in the Haywood community. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, taking care of his place, and feeding and watching the squirrels and birds. Johnnie also was a woodworker making numerous household items and furniture. He was a member of the Arpelar Baptist Church. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Mary Hernandez, and brothers: Roy Quinn and Wesley Quinn. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Matt Rosenow officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Haywood with military honors by the US Air Force.
