Mary was born to Michael L. and Mathilda (Gerhardt) Fleck on April 29, 1928. She grew up in the Solen area and graduated from Solen High School in 1947. She was employed by the Bell Telephone Company in Bismarck until her marriage to Alvin C. Hoff of Bismarck. In the early years of their marriage they lived in Carson, New Leipzig, and Ray where Al was the principal and coached at the local high schools.
In 1955, Al, Mary, and their four children moved to Carmichael as Al continued his education career. Their family increased to a total of seven children.
Mary was a very talented lady; she painted and matted scenic water color painting. As a seamstress she was outstanding - sewing pj's, robes, etc., and her stuffed cartoon animals/characters, cuddly blankets, and quilts were precious.
Mary was also a superb cook, introducing her family to the German cooking she recalled from her growing-up years, but was equally skilled in mixing up new recipes that became special requests.
Mary is survived by her seven children, Deborah (Alvin) Thompson, San Jose, Calif., David, Carmichael, Deanna (Dahlin), Redwood Valley, Calif., Denise Korcysk, Roseville, Calif., Donald, Woodland, Douglas, San Francisco, and Darrell (Terrie), Los Altos, Calif.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Fleck, North Platte, Neb., and sister, Phyllis Eckroth, Mandan; and sisters-in-law, Karen (Arnie) Jochim, Joann Fleck, and Mary Fleck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Adam and Olga Hoff; her brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hoff and Adam Eckroth; and sister-in-law, Jeanne (Hoff) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Nora Hoff; and son-in-law, James Korcysk; and her brothers, Mike, Roger, Matt, and Ted Fleck.
