Shannon – Mr. Jimmy Clay Underwood, 70, died suddenly at his home, Friday, December 29, 2017. He was born March 7, 1947 in Randolph, MS, to James and Louella Cook Underwood. He married Brenda Leach on June 3, 1971 at Old Union Baptist Church in Shannon. Jimmy was a Charter member of Green Valley Baptist Church and he and Brenda attended Brewer Baptist Church since moving to Shannon 32 years ago. He was patriotic and served in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged, he worked in upholstery in the furniture manufacturing industry before becoming disabled. He enjoyed hunting and fishing before his health began to fail, and was an avid Ole Miss football fan and John Wayne fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

A celebration of life service will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Tim Tutor officiating. Private burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 PM to 7 PM and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to service time. Condolences to the family may be e-mailed to [email protected]. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Brenda Underwood of Shannon, MS; one son, Jimmy Lee Underwood (Heather) of Shannon; two daughters, Melissa Mitchell (Steven) of Marietta, MS, and Kimberly Jones (Joseph) of Johnson City, TN; two brothers, Willie Underwood (Dale) of Selmer, TN, and Tommy Underwood (Nancy) of Pontotoc, MS; one sister, Ann Underwood (Jeff Calloway) of Pontotoc, MS; 7 grandchildren, Farrah Tidwell, jenna Underwood, Emma Underwood, Cooper Jones, Megan Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, and Nikki Reese; 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of other near relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gail Harris; brother, Jerry Underwood.

Pallbearers will be Robert Cox, Jason Cox, Nicky Cox, Buddy Creel, C.J. Hiler, and Allen Cox.
