Actress. She was a character actress who was known for a long career in both film and television that span seven decades. Her best known role was of 'Concepta Riley' (later 'Concepta Hewitt'), the first barmaid of the Rover's Return Inn on the popular British soap opera "Coronation Street" from 1960 to 1964, 1967, and 1975. She left school at the age of 15 to attend the Abbey Theatre School in Dublin, Ireland. Due to her father's job, she left Ireland to go to London during the Second World War. She made her television acting debut on the television movie "Death at Newtownstewart" in 1948. Besides "Coronation Street", her long list of British television credits included "The Men from Room 13", "Crossroads", "Parkin's Patch", "New Scotland Yard", "Play for Today", "Inside Out", "Hot Metal", "Fair City", "Father Ted", "Ballykissangel", "Cold Feet", "Cutting It", and "The Royle Family". She also appeared in numerous films during her long career with such credits as "Zoo Baby" (1957), "The Christmas Tree" (1966), "Darling Lili" (1970), "Lamb" (1985), "Joyriders" (1988), "Widows' Peak" (1994), "A Love Divided" (1999), "Mystics" (2003), "The Honeymooners" (2005), and "Boy Eats Girl" (2005). She also performed on both the theatrical stage and on radio during her career.
