Jason Atkins, 37, of 1404 W. Smith St., suffered a single shotgun wound to the abdomen when he was shot Monday night in the 1800 block of North Sheridan Road, which is just south of Nebraska Avenue, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Arrested in connection with the killing was Frank D. Flowers, 29, of 1817 N. Sheridan Road. He was booked into the Peoria County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a felon in connection with Atkins' death.
About 8 p.m. Monday, police were called to the 1800 block of North Sheridan Road on a disturbance call. When they arrived, they found Atkins lying in the yard of 1817 N. Sheridan. He was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.
