Mrs. Sims graduated from Mooresville High School and attended Appalachian Nursing School. She and Reverend Hugh D. Sims were married in 1947 and were married until his death in 1989. Mrs. Sims worked for the Federal Office of Personnel Management as a Test Administrator for over 10 years. An important part of her life was serving with her husband as they ministered to congregations at Faith Methodist Church, Huntersville Methodist Church, New Hope United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and Bethany United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children Sandra (Brant), Dale (Debbie), and David (also her Care Giver); grandchildren Melanie Aitken (Dave) and Jessica Van Vleet (Jim); her great grandchildren Gemma Aitken, and Jay and Liz Van Vleet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huntersville United Methodist Church, designated for the “Thrive Project”, at PO Box 378, Huntersville, NC 28070.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 11 at 11:00 at Huntersville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Ramah Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at James Funeral Home located in Huntersville at 10520 Arahova Drive. Visitation will also be Wednesday morning one hour before the service at the Huntersville United Methodist Church.
