Zilla Buchanan McMahan, 91, of Gay Road, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at Skyland Care Center after a period of declining health.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lawson and Bessie Allora McMahan Buchanan. She was a member of New Savannah Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgie Marie Austin and a brother, James Buchanan.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, George Clyde McMahan; daughters, Virgie Mae Guyer of Franklin and Janice Ann Lyerly of Dillard, Ga.; sons, Roy Lyle ''R.L.'' McMahan of Franklin, Ted Lawson McMahan of Clinton, Tenn. and Benny James McMahan of Inman, S.C.; sisters, Emma Lee McMahan, Marie Jones and Jessie Hall, all of Sylva, Roby Green of Florida and Hazel Jones of Franklin; brother, Adam Buchanan of Sylva; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Benny Bagwell and Clifford Parker. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends following the service.
