● Alvin Roy Tullis passed away on January 8, 2022. Roy was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Roy Alvin and Nell Rose Tullis on August 23, 1930. Roy came to Bakersfield with his father, mother and brother, Murl F. Tullis in 1940 for his mother's health.
He attended Bakersfield Schools, including Bakersfield High (K.C.U.H.C.) and Bakersfield College. He served three years in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service aboard the USS Capitaine (SS336) and the USS Pomodon (SS486). He married his lifelong bride, Jimmie Ray White in 1950.
Roy retired from the Kern County Fire Department in 1986 after 26 years of service. He started as a Firefighter in 1960 and worked in various stations throughout Kern County. As a Battalion Chief Roy was appointed Department Training Officer, a position he held until his promotion to Division Chief. At the time of his retirement, Roy was a field Division Chief in charge of Division One.
Roy was always involved in the community. While his children were growing up he was involved in P.T. Greenfield Little League, and scouting as a Weblo Leader. He later served over 20 years on the Greenfield Union School District Board of Trustees, both as a member and Board President. He was also a volunteer arbitrator for the Bakersfield Better Business Bureau Auto Line and volunteered at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop. He enjoyed his Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, his motorcycle, gold and his computer.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, mother, his wife of 46 years, Jimmie Tullis and his son Mitchel Jay Tullis.
He is survived by a son, three grandchildren, and four Great Grandchildren, All live in Bakersfield.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His extended family always came first and he was always there when needed to help someone out.
Graveside services were held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on February 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM.
