Archibald Davis Hogins, Sr. was the son of Abraham Hogins and Mary "Polly" Nowl. His Father was a soldier in the Revolutionary War from Wake County, North Carolina. Archibald was Sheriff of Dickson County, Tennessee in 1821 and at that time he was called David Hogins. Archibald married Louisa Bowen about 1835 in Dickson, Tennessee and came to Pope County in 1841 from Dickson with his wife and children.

Archibald was the donor of the land for Old Lake Cemetery in which he is buried.
