Richard “Rick” Douglas Newberry Jr., was born November 21, 1954 in Muskogee, OK to Richard “Dick” Douglas Sr., and Helen Larue (Satterfield) Newberry. His cousins have many fond memories of growing up in a close family and playing on the farm as children.

Rick remained a Porter resident all his life and contributed to the community by participating in the Lions Club and was currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Porter Medical Center. He was a lifelong member of the Porter Church of Christ. He was a member of the Wagoner Oddfellows Lodge.

After graduating from Porter High School in 1973 Rick enrolled at Northeastern State University. As Porter High School did not have a football team until the years following his graduation, Rick had not played high school football, but he had always wanted to, so he tried out as a walk on for the Northeastern team and made the team, playing all four years. His teammates and coaches nicknamed him “Jeep”, which some still call him to this day. His interest in football lasted his whole life. Rick was also active in the NSU Alumni Association.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree Rick began working as a draftsman. He was employed at Wagoner LaBarge and Steel Company for a number of years.

He was also a gifted artist and painter. He left many beautiful paintings that family will have as a reminder of his talent. He had interest in golfing and hunting and liked to visit about these to friends and family.

Rick departed this life early Thursday, December 28, 2017 in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the age of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Helen Newberry and his grandparents, Noble and Zola Satterfield and Homer and Gertie Newberry.
