Helen Larue (Satterfield) Newberry was born September 6, 1932 in Porter, Oklahoma to William Noble and Zola (Harp) Satterfield. She graduated from Porter High School and worked before retirement as a school secretary. Even following retirement Helen volunteered at the school. She always loved children; everyone knew she always had a full candy bowl at home and candy in her purse for the children at church.

Helen was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. She taught Sunday school for many years and sang at many funerals and weddings.

She had a gift for making silk arrangements and made silk Memorial Day wreaths in her garage. Her family was always on the lookout for silk flowers which she could use in her arrangements.

Her time with family was special to Helen. They spent many hours’ together, playing cards and dominoes, which Helen loved. They fondly recall how much Helen liked to win at those games as well. She loved to take family along with her to go out to eat and to shop. Helen was so much a part of the Porter community and will be missed by many.

Helen departed this life Wednesday, July27, 2016 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Douglas Newberry; and her parents.

Survivors include her son, Richard “Rick” Newberry of the home; three sisters, Frances Gillin and Yvonne Morgan, both of Broken Arrow, and Elaine Linzy and husband, Frank of Porter, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Ruth Newberry of Porter, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great great-nieces and nephews; many cousins on both sides of her family; other relatives; and her friends.
