MEMPHIS - John Richard "Dick" Fowler, 80, died Friday, March 23, 2007.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church with Tom Posey officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis.

Mr. Fowler was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Sayre, Okla., to the late Mr. John Fowler and Mrs. Ruth Garrett Fowler. He graduated from high school in Petersburg and the University of Texas in Austin with a BS in pharmacy. He worked as a registered pharmacist for 50 years and for most of his career was partner and pharmacist with his father, John, and brother, Bob, at Fowler Drug in Memphis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and an active member of First Christian Church in Memphis. He served for many years on the Memphis school board and was past president of the Memphis Lions Club, the Memphis Chamber of Commerce, the West Texas Pharmaceutical Association and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. He also served on the board of the Red River Authority of Texas and was currently a member of the Memphis City Council. On Oct. 6, 2003, he received his 50 year Masonic pin.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Louise Fowler; three children, Roge Fowler and wife Cathy of Perkins, Okla., Paul Fowler and wife Rhonda of Claremore, Okla., and Julie Fowler Thrash and husband Howard of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Jesse Fowler of Stillwater, Okla., Jared Fowler of Norman, Okla., Garrett Fowler of Claremore and Gibson and John Thomas Thrash of Lubbock; and a brother, Robert Fowler of Memphis.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
