Helen Gore Hammett, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at her daughter's home in Dewey, OK.

Born December 16, 1922, in Spartanburg, SC, daughter of the late John William Gore (1896–1949) and Lois Morris Gore Cook (1896–1982); married Thomas "Tommy" Hammett, Sr. in May 1941 and celebrated 67 years.

A warm, caring individual, whose family and faith were the most important aspects of her life. A 1938 graduate of Spartanburg High School, a longtime employee at Smith's Wholesale Drug as a shipping clerk, retired in 1985 to go camping with her husband, and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Spartanburg for fifty years.

Other survivors include a daughter, Tana McGraw (Marshall); son, Tim Hammett (Mickey); daughter-in-law, Jane Hammett; two granddaughters; one grandson; six great-grandchildren; and brother, John Gore.

Also predeceased by her son, Thomas Hammett, Jr.; brother, Monnie Gore, Sr.; and sisters, Vonnette Thomas and Sarah Adair.

The family received friends from 7:00 - 8:30 pm, Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 3, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church of Spartanburg conducted by Rev. Dr. James W. Crocker and Rev. Danny Garrett; burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
