Gail was born as Kathryn Gail Orton on December 3, 1931 in Fort Smith, AR. She spent most of her childhood in Little Rock and met her future husband, Jack, in the eighth grade. They graduated from Little Rock Central High in 1949. She went on to Arkansas Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1952. She and Jack married in 1953 and she worked in Labor and Delivery and the hospital nursery. After Jack finished medical school and his residency they moved with their first two babies to Pine Bluff where they lived until 2011 when they moved to Missouri to live near their daughter.
Gail always put her Lord and family first and was a loved and faithful friend. She raised her three children, then worked with Jack in his medical practice. She taught pre-schoolers in Sunday School for over twenty years and was active in many programs of her church for over 50 years. She was active in the State Medical Auxiliary and in her later years enjoyed volunteering at the Hope Women’s Resource Center. She worked with her cousin, Carol Cameron Shaw, to document the work done by their grandfather Captain James Cameron on the earliest forms of navigational guidance systems. Gail was an avid reader and accomplished pianist. She loved playing her beautiful baby Grand, an anniversary gift from Jack because he loved to hear her play. Her children truly “rise up and bless her” and she will be missed by many.
