He was born October 7, 1946, in Washington County, Va., to the late Ray K. Blevins and Lena Vivian Holman Blevins. Sam was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired inspector from Columbus-McKinnon Corporation after 41 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Sam was a practical jokester while at work and a friend to all he met.
He was a member of Alvarado Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Woods Blevins; two children, Gary Blevins and wife, Kim of Bristol, Tenn., and Vickie Moore and husband, Tim of Bristol, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jessica Seymore and husband, Devin, Ray Blevins, and Amanda Henegar and husband, John; two sisters, Sandra Gobble and husband, Junior of Abingdon, Va. and Peggy Cox of Bristol, Va., one brother, David “Buster” Blevins and wife, Sandy of Bristol, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Alvarado community, with Pastor Tony Woods officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to gather at the cemetery by 1:45 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Clifton Woods, Aaron Blevins, Max Jackson, Kelly Gobble, Kirby Gobble and Junior Gobble.
