Anita Michelle Dean Lee, 67, a longtime resident of Jasper passed
away unexpectedly on December 13, 2017 at Houston Northwest Medical Center in
Houston, Texas.
Anita was born in Columbia, S. Carolina January 31, 1950 to Gwendolyn Opal and
Murriel E. Dean, Sr.; the family moved to Jasper when she was very young. She
graduated from Jasper High School class of 1968, then attended Sam Houston State
University where she earned a degree in Business Management. Anita worked for
General Electric OEM Sales in Houston, TX for many years before returning to her
hometown of Jasper where she worked for American General Life Insurance, she also ran
Holly Springs Grocery store and then finishing her career with Community Bank of
Texas before retiring. Anita had a passion for cooking and she loved to share how and
what she made with others. She loved gardening, canning, her farm animals, crossword
puzzles, family, friends, her church and her dogs. She was a loving, caring, strong
mother, grandmother, and friend and will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Murriel E. Dean, Sr., Gwendolyn Opal Powell
Dean and son Christopher Eric Lee. She is survived by daughter Diane Bates, husband
Jack Bates, grandson Jacob Bates of Spring, Texas, step-grandchildren Austin Bates of
Katy Texas, Valerie Rash, husband Joe Rash, their daughter Kayler of Jasper, Texas and
Brittany Byerly, her husband Jacob Byerly of Jasper, Texas. She has numerous cousins
in Jasper, throughout Texas and the US.
A visitation will be held at The Holly Springs Baptist Church, under the direction of
Shultz Funeral home and officiated by Bro. Gene Maddox. The family will greet public
from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday December 21st. Family and friends are
invited to a Celebration of Life Service to be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:00
a.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church with a private interment at Magnolia Cemetery in
Holly Springs.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to your local USO/VFW or Down
Syndrome Association of Houston in memory of Nana for Jacob Bates.
