John was killed by Indians at Crockett Texas in the 1830's near the Alabama Crossing on the Trinity River. This site is now near the Porter Springs Community.

John A Allbright was granted one League and one Labors on November 5, 1835. In the general land office where situated and under remarks: Near Big Alabama Creek, 4 miles.

John married a Miss Reitzell. Soon after their marriage they moved to Tennessee, then to Alabama, and on to Texas (in the early 1830's with a large family). Their children:
1. William born about 1800 in North Carolina.
2. Jacob Allbright born about 1817 in Tennessee.
3. Edward B Allbright born August 5, 1798 in North Carolina.
4. Solomon born about 1816 in Tennessee.
5. John Jr born 1832 Died during the Civil War
6. Sarah married a Strand.
7. Mary married Long or Loving.
8. Margaret married a Ware.
9. Nana born 6-30-1813 in Alabama. Married William Albert Long.
10. Catherine born 1810 married John H Kirchoffer.
11. George no further information.


The name Allbright is also spelled Albright. Checked for both spellings before he was entered on September 15,2011.
Shortly after they were married, they moved to AL, then Tennessee,and finally settled in Houston County, TX in 1832. John was killed by Indians a few years after arriving in TX between 1836 when he received bounty land grant and the administration of his estate in 1840. He and his sons acquired large tracts of land in the area. The 1840 Republic of TX census lists land owned by them:

P.O. Box 411 Burlington, North Carolina 27215 Family of Jacob Allbright. John Allbright came to Houston County, TX from AL in the early 1830's with a large family. He met a tragic death at the hands of Indians soon after his arrival. It is not known when or where he was born or the name of his wife. The Children were born in Tenn. His children were: Edward B. 1799 married Taffenious- William B. 1800 married Harriet Ann Perminto Jacob B. 1807 married Willie Nelson Solomn b. 1816 married Frances (Fanny) Masters John Jr. b. 1832 Sarah married - Strand Marguerete married -Ware
Mary married - Long Catherine b. 1810 married John H. Kerchoffer Jacob settled on the East bank of the Trinity River and established a town known as "AL". It became the business center of a thriving population and a commercial center. Jacob established and conducted a ferry, warehouse and commercial business. Trinity College was located there by an Act of Legislation of Jan. 30, 1841. Jacob was one of the trustees of the college. The trustees were composed of the most notable pioneers of that day. Jacob Allbright was elected the first Court Clerk of Houston County in 1837. He later was a Notary Public, Tax assessor and Collector. The earliest case found in TX Supreme Court reports in which the name of Col. Miller appears is the Case of Allbright Vs. Aldrich. In this case the names of three of the most outstanding pioneers of Houston County appear: Jacob Allbright, first County clerk, Collins Aldrich, first Chief Justice, and Elisha Clapp noted Indian fighter and hero of San Jacinto. The petition to form Houston County was signed by John Allbright, Jr., Jacob Allbright, Albert Allbright, and Solomn Allbright. It is believed that the County government was functioning and deeds and other legal documents were being recorded by Jacob Allbright when the first courthouse was built in 1843.
