Obituary for Eliane Sugden
SUGDEN, Eliane (Bourgeois) age 94
Born in Paris, France. Lived in the Laureldale section of Mays Landing for many years. She passed away peacefully at Spring Village (Galloway), on November 17th, 2016.
She met her husband (Hampden) in France, while he was serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army during WW II. Eliane worked with the French Underground and helped save many soldiers and was very proud of that. When the war ended, she followed her husband to the USA on a 17 day journey on an American troop ship. Theirs was a true story of sacrifice, love and devotion until Hampden passed away in 1991.
Eliane came to the United States speaking no English and yet went on to receive her degree from Atlantic Community College. She spent many years as a devoted substitute teacher at Oakcrest High School. She was also an accomplished seamstress, who made clothes and beautiful wedding gowns for many women in the area.
Mrs. Sugden was preceded in death by her husband (Hampden). She is survived by her daughter, Frances Cina (Ken). And her daughter Genevieve Henderson (Rodney - deceased). She is also survived by her grandson, Andrew Cina (Pam), her granddaughter Michele (Cina) VanSickle, along with four great-grandchildren ... Julia,Travis, Kendall and Ayla. She also leaves her sister Nicole (Andre') who reside in France and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, NJ on Tuesday evening, November 22nd from 7 to 9 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd from 10 to 11 a.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Egg Harbor City Cemetery.
The family invites friends and family to the Presbyterian Church in Mays Landing for fellowship and a luncheon following the service and burial.
