Catherine Christine Healey was born May 27, 1930 to Louis and Myrtle Crockett in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. She passed away Sunday Dec. 3, 2017 in Lanigan Hospital at the age of 87 years, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Mom’s schooling was taken in Ridgedale followed by one year at Two Rivers Bible Institute. Mom & Dad met in grade one and we fondly remember Mom telling us that she was “going to marry that cute little blue-eyed boy”. Mom and Dad were married June 13, 1950 and for most of their married life they farmed north of Ridgedale. They raised a family of six daughters and four sons. Mom had the soul of an artist, this showed itself in flower gardens, writing poetry, creating pencil sketches, chalk drawings, piano playing, cake decorating, knitting, quilt-making and photography. As an accomplished seamstress she clothed her family… going on to create wedding gowns and two generations of graduation gowns. Often heard saying “I am very blessed”, she was a blessing in the lives of family and friends. She was quick to volunteer, always ready to bake for others, ginger snaps and lemon pies showed her compassion and kindness to so many people. After Dad’s passing in 2000 Mom remained on the farm until 2007 when she moved to Nipawin. Mom continued her enthusiastic involvement with Emmanuel Baptist Church. She took great joy in photographically documenting the church’s move to its present location and the construction of the new fellowship hall. Mom delighted in numerous activities with her church family. She developed many rich friendships. Due to failing health, Glenna and Larry invited Mom to move to Spalding in 2014 where she lived in her own suite for 3 years. In September 2017 she moved to Lanigan Hospital, becoming a long term resident receiving 24 hour care from the exceptional staff. This was her home for three months with Shirley and Jerry providing daily, loving support. In the short time she was there she did not concentrate on what she had lost but continued to be purposeful in Bible study, forming new friendships, and spreading sunshine. She lived her faith with humility and surprising boldness, quick to speak to others about preparing for eternity. She had no timidity when speaking with assurance of her future heavenly home. When Mom decided to follow Jesus she said it was the best decision she ever made. In her words “It was too good a deal to pass up”. To cherish her memory she leaves her 10 children who indeed “rise up and call her blessed”. She was predeceased by her much-loved husband Melville (Jude), in 2000; one grandson Matthew Teichrib, in 2016; her mother Myrtle in 1984; her father Louis in 1957; her siblings: Marion (infant), Margaret (Bruce) Caldwell, Bryce (Vera) Crockett, Lloyd (Doris) Crockett, Ruth (Ted) McCarthy, William Crockett, Lois (Bud) Meier, brothers-in-law: Harvey Whenham and David Crockett. A Memorial Celebration was held from Emmanuel Baptist Church, Nipawin, SK on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:30 PM. The interment preceded the Celebration at the Ridgedale Cemetery.
