Nancy Elswick was born in Campbell Co., Tennessee about 1817. She was the daughter of Jonathon Elswick (1796-1823) and Elizabeth Richardson (1798-1881).

Nancy's father, Jonathon, was born in Montgomery Co., North Carolina and died in Campbell Co., TN. Nancy's mother, Elizabeth, was born in Pulaski Co., KY and died in Scott Co., TN. Their burial sites are unknown.

On Feb. 9, 1839, in Campbell Co., TN, 22 year old Nancy married 25 year old Thomas Angel (abt 1814-1851). He was the son of Archibald Andrew "Arch" Angel (1775-1847) and Nancy Ann Trammell (1782-1829). Nancy and Thomas were married for about twelve years and had five known children. They are listed in Thomas's memorial.

Thomas died on Jan. 6, 1851 in Angel Valley, Campbell Co., TN. He was just 37 years of age. Thomas is buried in the Angel Family Cemetery (aka Angel-Wright Cemetery) on the family farm in Angel Valley, near Ketchen, Scott Co., TN.

Nancy did not remarry. She died at age 50 on Sept. 7, 1867 in Scott Co., TN, not far from Angel Valley. She too, is buried in the Angel Family Cemetery, next to her husband, Thomas. There are 160+ unidentifiable graves in this family cemetery, many of them with just field stones for markers. Two of these unidentifiable markers are for Thomas and Nancy.

At her death, Nancy, a widow, had been living next to her brother, Andrew Elswick, and his family near Winfield, Scott Co., TN, not far from Angel Valley. Following her death, Andrew moved (abt 1867-70) his family to Jefferson Co., Kansas. Nancy's five children (ages 14-24) moved with him. They are all shown in the 1870 census living in Kansas.
