Arrange Mrs. Axtell Rites
Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Jones Axtell, who died Wednesday in New York City, will be held at St. James' Episcopal Church, Saturday at 3 p.m. The Rev. William A. Sparks will officiate. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.
Born in Youngstown, she spent her younger life in this city. She later taught at Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby. Mrs. Axtell was the daughter of the late. J. Powell Jones, former music supervisor for Cleveland City Schools and for the Painesville Public Schools.
Since her marriage 15 years ago, she had resided in Big Spring, Tex. She was ill for about four months before her death.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Axtell; three daughters, Jane, Josephine and Anne; a sister, Mrs. C. C. Crafts, Shaker Heights; and a brother, Frank T. Jones, Fort Morgan, Cal. She was a sister to the late Glyn Jones and the late Trevor Jones. The latter served as president of the W. B. Davis Co. in Cleveland.
Mrs. Axtell was well known in this city for her work in musical circles. She organized one of the earliest choral societies here and was active in its workings.
