Mrs. Melinda Aline Jones Cochran Payne, 75, of Mt. Airy went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 09, 2017 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Carroll County, VA on August 29, 1942 to Melinda Catherine Bowens and Marley Jones, and Rosie Alleuria Jones. She worked at Mt. Airy Hosiery Mills, and as a CNA. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack D. Cochran and is survived by her husband, Jack Payne. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Cochran, son and daughter-in-law, Calvin D. and Penny Hodges Cochran; grandsons, Nicky and Drew Cochran, step-son, Tommy Payne and fiancée Kathy Bryant all of Mt. Airy; brothers, J.C. “Ikey” and Linda Jones, Johnny and Janice Jones, Mike and Brenda Jones, Bryan and Nancy Jones, all of Fries, VA, Albert "M.F" and Judy Jones, Sherman and Claudine Jones both of Mt. Airy; brother-in-law, Jack Duncan of Cana, VA; sisters, Rosie Lee and Tommy Blevins, Lillian and Ronnie Shaffner, Darlene and Doug Bryant, Carol Jean and Jim Carter, Kathy and Cecil Ayers all of Fries, VA, and Inez Ward, of Independence, VA; her dog, Max. In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by sisters, Daisy Duncan, Vilene Pack, Imogene Snow, and Lorene Isom, and Brother, Kilbert Jones; brothers-in-law, Joe and Bobby Cochran; sister-in-law, Linda Cain and grandmother, Ethel Cochran Gunnell. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Closer Walk Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Cockerham and Salvation Army Lieutenant Jeff Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Saddle Mountain Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 AM until time for the service at the church.
