Marcia Elizabeth Haworth, age 86 of Nixa. The youngest child of Jake and Stella Frances McDaniel Painter born February 28th, 1931, on their farm 3 1/2 miles west of Nixa. Her brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Marcia attended school at Lone Hill during 1st and 3rd grades, went to Nixa Reorganized up to the 8th grade during WW II. She then moved to Springfield where she attended Jarrett Junior High. Marcia moved back home to Nixa for the 9th grade and graduated from there in 1948. She graduated in a class of 13, 3rd from the top, earning a scholarship to SMS, declining knowing her parents couldn’t afford the rest.
Marcia’s first job was at Kresge’s Dime Store in Springfield followed by Farmers & Merchants Bank loan department. She then hired as the first paid secretary of Nixa Reorganized Dist. II.
On October 22nd 1949 she married her high school sweetheart Billie Mack Haworth in a ceremony in Harrison, AR. Bill survives and lives in Nixa.
In the early 50’s she and Bill moved to San Diego, CA, hoping to cure Bill from asthma. They both worked at Rhor Aircraft in Chula Vista, CA.
Returning back to Nixa found Marcia pregnant with Rebecca Ann, born June 8th, 1953, with Bill working at Wilson Cheese. Marcia returned to work at Mid-America Credit Union in Springfield for the next 17 years. Billy Derek was born October 17th, 1957. Linda Michele October 15, 1962, and Cary Stephen June 30, 1964. Cary preceded Marcia in death. Marcia is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill and Marcia enjoyed traveling in their retirement. They toured England in 1982 and Germany in 1986. They took 12 trips with the Haworth brothers and 3 trips with Mike and Michele, including a trip to Alaska in 2001.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9th, 2017 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa with Chaplain Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the McConnell-Bledsoe Cemetery, Nixa.
