Dr. E. P. Reed, whose lingering illness has been mentioned from time to time, died Friday, July 25, 1902, aged 76 years. The cause of his death was dropsy and general debility. Dr. Reed was born at Nashville(sic), North Carolina, in 1826, and came to Jackson County in 1865, residing in Houston and other places in the county, finally locating in Brownstown in 1885, where he practiced his profession as a physician and continued to reside until his death. He was united in marriage March 30, 1843, to Nancy Woody, who survives him, but who has been quite sick for several days past. To their union were born eight children, four boys and four girls, 2 of whom, a son and a daughter are living, viz: J. L. Reed, of Clifford, IN and Mrs. L. D. Reeder, of North Vernon.

Deceased was a charter member of Brownstown Lodge, No. 488, I. O. O. F., transferring his membership from the Clear Spring Lodge in order to help institute one here. The funeral services were conducted at the residence Sunday morning at 9 o'clock, Elder H. A. Wingard, officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery according to the ritualistic services of the I.O.O.F. Order.
