Greenville enlisted Nov. 18, 1862 in the CSA. He was paroled at Greensboro N.C. on May 1, 1865, as a member of Co. F., 1st Tennessee Consolidated Infantry. Maggie Templeton filed and received acceptance for a widow's Confederate pension (application #2372) on March 1, 1909. She was living in Quebeck, White County, TN.
Greenville married 1) Amaranda S. Farris (1834–1870) on June 16, 1850, in White County, TN. One son,
Thomas Jefferson "Tom" Templeton (1861–1940).
Greenville married 2) Margaret "Maggie" Denton (1849–1917) on Nov. 3, 1870, in White County, TN.
