After his return he married Susannah and farmed for a time in Berkshire. In 1880, the family moved to Candor. Hiram and Sussanah had at least four children together: Hattie, Alfred, Jennie, and Jesse. In 1890 he is listed in the veteran's schedule for Richford, Ny.
