Teddy James Ashby, 88, a former oil company employee, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday at his Concordia (independent) living center apartment in Oklahoma City. Ted was born in Kingsville, Texas to James Lindsey and Opal Ozell (Garrett) Ashby. Following graduation from Corpus Christi High School and working various jobs he enlisted in the US Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1953 in Utah as a Staff Sergeant. Ted then accepted employment with Sun Oil Company out of Houston, Texas, and retired after 30 years in 1985. During his employment with Sun the family lived in Alaska, Colorado, Louisiana, then finally back to Oklahoma. Ted was a whistler, and Ann and her mom could always tell when he was about to walk in the door. Upon his first retirement he started his own successful business, which he he eventually sold so he could enjoy retired life. Ted was known as Chipmunk by his granddaughter, and she by him, affectionately, as Buzzard Bait. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ashby, and was survived by his daughter, Ann Chaney; grandson, Ryan Daniel Kohs; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ashley Kohs; great-granddaughter, Jaycee Knight; great-grandson, Justin Kohs; and Charles Wyatt, soon to be adopted. Ted and Barbara were longtime, faithful member of the North MacArthur church of Christ, where he was in attendance two days before his decease. Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, 8 Dec 2017, at the Buchanan Funeral Service chapel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, followed by a private, family graveside service at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
