Darlene L. Lohr, daughter of Chester and Thelma (Dahl) Lohr, was born Aug. 21, 1935 in Watertown. She attended country school and graduated from Waverly (SD) High School.
Darlene married Russell Becker on June 26, 1955 in Revillo, SD. The couple made their home in Adrian, MN, where they owned and operated a café. When their twins were born, Darlene stayed home to raise her children. After the children were older, she worked at Lucys Café and later as a teachers aide for the Adrian School System. Darlene and Russell moved to Sioux Falls in 1985. She worked for the Argus-Leader until retiring in 1998.
Church was very important to Darlene. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family and baking. Darlene was a people person who welcomed both friends and strangers into her home. Above all, she cherished her family and spending time with them.
Grateful for having shared her life are four children, Dale Becker and his wife, Sue, Sioux Falls, SD, Gail Buysse and her husband, Steve, Maple Grove, MN, Debbie Heikes, Worthington, MN, Russell Becker and his wife, Cheri, Maple Grove, MN; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Doris Lausen and her husband, Charles, Hawarden, IA, Donna Borns, Watertown, SD, Mable Noeldner, Eau Claire, WI, Barbara Ries, Sioux Falls, SD, LeRoy Lohr and his wife, Arla, Antioch, CA, Charlotte Hansen and her husband, Allan, Sioux Falls, SD, Allen Lohr, Chicago, IL, Chester Lohr, Yankton, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, on November 22, 2008; and her parents.
