Oswell Tyler was the son of Moses Tyler Sr. and Phoebe Ann Evans. He was born at Muddy Creek near Garards Fort in then Washington County, Pennsylvania. (Garards Fort became part of Greene County in 1796).
He was married Oct. 18, 1802 in Jefferson County, Kentucky to Margaret "Peggy Reed. They were the parents of eight known children: Moses, Mary Ann "Polly," Allen, Oswell/Auswell, Harvey, Phebe Ann, William Milton, John, and Eleanor Ellen Ella Ann Tyler.
