On Friday morning at an early hour, March 27, Sister Aston, wife of Rev. J. A. Aston, entered into the life more abundant. She had been in poor health for some time, being confined to her bed three months before her death, during which time she suffered intensely, but always bearing it as only the true servant of God can, truly a great soul has gone from among us. No, not gone altogether because the gentle, quiet and kind life that she lived has made its imprint on the lives of those who knew her, and that influence will live on. She was one of those characters who could only be appreciated fully by those who knew her best. It was the priviledge of this writer to be in the home of Brother and Sister Aston often, when he was a boy preacher on his first circuit. It was then that a friendship with the family was established that has grown stronger through the intervening years, and today as I think over the experiences of that year, I thank God that the Astons lived on that circuit. In the home Sister Aston was a queenly mother, a faithful wife and a devoted Christian. It was here that her calm personality and her words that were soft and low, betrayed the great soul that she was. She shared uncomplainingly with her husband in all the hardships of a circuit rider's life, he being one of our most faithful local preachers, always serving hard circuits and missions. And when the books are opened in that great day, and honor is given to whom honor is due, she will no doubt, share with him the honors there given for his ministry here. Sister Isabella Aston was born in Chickasaw Co. Miss., Dec. 29, 1859 and died in McAlester, Oklahoma March 27, 1925. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom survive her. The are as follows: W. H. Aston, S. A. Aston, Maggie Bell Murdock, Eula Richie, J. M. Aston, Milo Aston, Herbert Aston, all of McAlester, Okla., and Mrs. Ora Rodgers of Savana, Okla. Funeral services were conducted at Savana, Oklahoma, participated in by her Presiding Elder, J. H. Ball, Rev. Harold G. Cooke, Pastor, McAlester, and the writer.
