A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 pm at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, NC.
Mrs. Gilliam was a native of Mebane, NC. She attended Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, Mt. Vernon College in Washington, DC, and Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. She was a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Parsons School of Design in New York City. A home and office designer, Barbara previously worked for CitiBank and in public relations with J. Walter Thompson in New York. She was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club and Surf Club in Wrightsville Beach, NC and the Colony Club in New York City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Elizabeth Burke Southerland of Mebane, NC and later of Wilmington, NC.
She is survived by her:
husband, James Daniel Gilliam;
beloved Black Lab, Frank; and
cousins, Harold Pollard and wife, Louise, of Winston-Salem,
Scott Pollard and wife, Pat, of Charlotte, NC, and
Gayle Pollard Watson, of Burlington, NC.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 5 – 7 pm at the home of Jim and Mary Holland, 523 Longmeadow Rd., Greenville, NC.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the Greenville, NC Museum of Art.
