The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the First United Methodist Church of Mertzon, with Pastor Phil Steinbach officiating, with a Masonic service following in the Mertzon Cemetery.
Morris moved to Mertzon, Texas, working with RH&K Drilling Company in 1956. On Jan. 19, 1957, he and Frances Ann Harris were married, and he went to work for Harris Hardware & Lumber Company. In 1960 and 1961, he served his country with the U.S. Army. He was later employed by the Mertzon Gas Plant, and continued working with the plant through several owners until it was purchased by Conoco. After working six months for Kansas Pipeline, he went to work for Shelton Oil & Gas Company and Shot's convenience stores until his retirement in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; two sons, Randy and wife LeNee of Odessa, Texas, and Kenny and wife Mechelle of Carlsbad, Texas; three treasured grandchildren, Randall V. Grice Jr. of Odessa, and Robert Whitley Grice and Kathryn Ann Grice of Carlsbad; two brothers, Larry Grice and wife Alice of Abilene, and Ronnie Grice and wife Marsilla of San Angelo. He is also survived by four brothers-in-law, Jimmie Harris and wife Annie Lou of Abilene, Bill Harris of Lovelady, Joe Harris and wife Jean of Jasper, Texas, and David Harris and wife Linda of Mertzon; sisters-in-law, Joyce Midkiff and husband David of Jasper, Reba Milner and husband Bud of Terrel, Virginia West of Jasper, Avalon Cowan and husband Bubba of Mertzon, Oida Blackledge and husband Junior of San Angelo, Billie Harris of Duncanville, Betty Harris of Nederland and Mary Harris of Mertens; one uncle, John Ralph Hardy of May, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Red and Gladys Grice; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, V. and Henrietta Harris; four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
