Mr. Emerson was born Sept. 11, 1932, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Michael Herman and Mary Elizabeth Dorman Emerson.
He worked at L&S Diner in Harrisonburg. He was a former member of Bethel Church of the Brethren in Keezletown and attended John Wesley United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Pamela Emerson Sorrells of Timberville, Carol Sue Emerson Delawder of Broadway and Cynthia Ann Emerson Jarrells of Grottoes; a son, Billy Joe Emerson of Harrisonburg; three sisters, Edith Derrow of Keezletown, Ella Mae Shaffer of Timberville and Velma Woodward of Pennsylvania; a companion, Edith Mickens of Harrisonburg, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Paul Coker will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grandle Funeral Home chapel in Broadway. Burial will be private.
