Nancy Swanger Robison, wife of the late Dr. R.B. Robison, peacefully passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo.

Daughter of Clarence ""Bill"" and Virginia Anderson Swanger, Nancy was born October 3, 1942, in Water Valley, but lived her formative years in Memphis, Tennessee. While her upbringing was of meager standards, she never allowed this to deter her desire and determination to prove herself. She attended Memphis Technical High School where she not only excelled scholastically, earning membership to both the National Honor Society and the Quill & Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists, but also received numerous accolades including serving as Honor Society Reporter, Class Historian, Yearbook Index Editor, Co-Captain Cheerleading Squad, R.O.T.C. Staff Major, Thespian Club President, Co-Editor of the school newspaper and crowned Beauty Queen. It would be these earlier achievements which exemplified and defined her character: intelligent, competitive, artistic, disciplined, charismatic, ambitious, accomplished, and poised.
As a young wife and mother, she juggled a full-time job, served as Chief Steward for Labor Management, and volunteered with many organizations such as March of Dimes, Jr. Women's Club, Ladies Auxiliary, and Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs which culminated in her being honored in the 1971 publication of ""Outstanding Young Women in America"".

Nancy also pursued many interests such as interior design, cooking, sewing, needlepoint, crochet, games of logic and intellect, and reading. But it was her competitive nature that placed her in the ranks as a Championship Golfer, Master Bridge Player, and Bowling League winner. Golf was her true passion, however, and she enjoyed some of her favorite memories traveling and golfing around the world with her husband Rudyard, friends and family. Introduced to the sport in her late 30's, she was considered by many to be a natural and proved her skill by breaking 80 her first year of playing. She began playing competitively soon after, winning numerous local and regional championships. In 1994 she became involved with the Southern Women's Golf Association, serving as Mississippi State Representative to Board of Directors and elected Director in 1996. In 2001 she was elected and served two terms as Present of SWGA, the only second Mississippian elected to the office in the 90 years history of the association. She also served as Local Tournament Chairman at Old Waverly and was appointed to the USGA Mid-Am Committee and served on the Local Executive Committee for the US Open at Waverly.

Always elegant, Nancy exuded Southern style, sophistication and grace. Mind you, if you crossed boundaries, she might well exude something else! A true 'steel magnolia'.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years Dr. R.B. Robison; parents, Clarence ""Bill"" and Virginia Swanger; and daughter, Angela R. White

Survivors include children, Rud Robison Jr. (Debra) of Tupelo, Raymond Andrew ""Andy"" Robison of Tupelo, Stacy R. Price (Dr. Mark) of Napa, California, Kim R. Mitchell (Tom) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Wendy R. Morrow (Greg) of Saltillo; grandchildren, Chelsea Zwick (Kevin), Claire Garnett (Josh), Madison Lannom, Emily Morrow, Samantha Powell, Sydney White, Tyler Lannom, Katherine Mansel (Jalon); and great-grandchildren, Emory Claire Garnett, Kane Powell and Ada Zwick; brother, Jimmy A. Swanger (Sharlott); half-brother, Jack Swanger of Hardy, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Anne Robison of San Ramon, California; and son-in-law, Nathan White (Leslie) of Calvert City, Kentucky.
