Nathaniel Greene Curtis was born in Raleigh,N.C. on February 5, 1826.In 1850, he came to California with a tide of hopeful gold seekers.Soon after his arrival in Sacramento,he was appointed Deputy Postmaster.In 1853,he was elected Recorder,which he served as for three years.Though of Southern blood he was against the breaking up of the Union during the Civil War and gave numerous speeches against secession.In 1867,Judge Curtis became a member of the State Senate and in 1869,he served as a Senator.He was much respected and was considered a part of the "old School" of chivalrous attorney's,when honor was always the objective point.He passed away in Sacramento on July 12,1897,he was 71 years old.

buried with wife,NancyJane(d.11/12/1909),in the Masonic section.He was a Sacramento Judge and a State Senator.He had adopted,Annie Louisa with his first wife,Louisa Curtis (d.5/28/1864).
