Randall “Randy” Allen Meyer, 61, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away in the comfort of his home on November 8, 2017.

Memorial services for Randy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Bonser officiating. 

Randall Allen Meyer was born on January 21, 1956 in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Fred and Joyce (Waterman) Meyer. Randy was raised and educated in the Marshall County school district.  He graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1974.  While attending MHS as a junior, Randy had the honor of traveling as a member of the marching band to Miami, Florida and performing in the Orange Bowl Parade on New Year’s Day, 1973.  Along with the marching band, Randy also played a soulful saxophone in the jazz band and he carried his love of music throughout his life.   

Randy honorably served his country by enlisting into the United States Airforce.  He served 4 years and during his 4 years he took an online correspondence course with the Cleveland Institute of Electronics.  He passed all tests, and graduated with top honors being in the top 10 individuals in the United States of America.  The institute had special graduation for these top ten.  Towards the end of his USAF enlistment period he was selected to be on the U.S. Presidential Communication Team.  He declined to continue to pick up on his employment benefits with Fisher Controls. 
A
fter his service in the Air Force, he was united in marriage to Diana Davis of Marshalltown, Iowa.  The two were later divorced but from this union brought him two children: Sharon Kay and Brian Christopher Meyer.  Randy’s passion lay in the world of computers and high tech electronics and he was proficient at coding in a variety of programming languages.  He put those skills to good use while employed at Fisher Controls for over twenty-one years.    

He leaves to mourn his passing, two children, Brian Christopher Meyer, and Sharon Kay (Richard) Varner; two grandchildren: Patrick and Preston; parents: Fred and Joyce Meyer; siblings: Scott (DeAnn) Meyer, Peggy (Steve) Menuey and Sherry (Rick) Clark.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides.
