Craig was a life-long Boy Scout, beginning in Cub Scouts, was an Eagle Scout, Order of Arrow, and was awarded the Silver Beaver award. He fell in love with sailing and by the time he was 15 owned his first sailboat. He was an avid member of the Denver Sailing Association and Coronado 15 Fleet in Denver, CO and an active Sea Scout trainer and troop leader in the Denver Council of Boy Scouts.
He was an avid hiker, cross country skier and loved to winter camp. Craig met his wife Vicky while racing on Sloan's Lake and they continued to own sailboats and race until 2012. They were avid hikers, bikers and cross country skiers until a devastating illness overtook Craig's ability to continue those activities.
Craigs parents were: George William Pierce (1916-2002, buried at Ft. Logan), Edith Marie Roloff (1920-1979).
