William Alexander DeWoody, 61, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Irene Baker, at Sugarcreek at 7:10 am today following an illness of 3 months, and two strokes suffered during that time. He was born in Venango County November 6, 1870, son of Thomas and Eliza Welton DeWoody.
He lived in this area for 30 years, until 2 years ago when he moved to Denver, CO. For 17 years he worked as a railway mail clerk, and upon retirement, entered the contracting business here, as a cement contractor, which he continued until 3 years ago, when ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of Grace M. E. Church.
Surviving are his widow; a son, Carl H. DeWoody of Erie; his aged mother, Mrs. Eliza Moore of Sugarcreek; brothers and sisters, Milo R. DeWoody of Oil City, James DeWoody of Franklin, Mrs. Irene Baker of Sugarcreek, Mrs. Jennie Ferringer of Franklin, Mrs. Grace Fennell of Fairmont, WV, and Mrs. Lavina Fullerton of Sugarcreek; and 2 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:20 pm Saturday in Hickory Grove Church with Rev. Servey officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
