Lydia is the daughter of John Jacob Goodman and Margaret "Peggy" Hagan, she married Samuel M Bishop and had 10 children with him, he died in 1874 and she continued raising their children, her daughter Melissa, who had already buried her 7 year old daughter was still at home as were her sons Hickman and George. In 1881 Samuel Hickman Bishop married and left, then in 1882 George died, and 1883 Melissa died. She later married Thomas Staples as an old age partner.
