Erika Matilda Råberg was born in Karjaa (Karis), Etelä-Suomen, Finland to Johan Råberg. She moved to Tumbo in Eskilstuna Municipality, Södermanland, Sweden in 1885 and married Carl Gustaf Carlson there on April 14, 1889. She emigrated to USA in 1892, following her husband, and settled in Massachusetts.
