Carl Gustaf Carlson was born in the village of Tumbo in Eskilstuna Municipality, Södermanland, Sweden to Carl Johan Olsson and Anna Cajsa (Larsdotter) Olsson. He married Erika Matilda Råberg in Tumbo on April 14, 1889. He emigrated to USA, arriving at the Port of Boston on June 5, 1892, his wife following soon afterward. He became a US citizen in 1907.
