Evelyn Viola Powell Madsen age 93, passed away July 21, 2001 in Arizona.

She was born Sept. 3, 1907 in Murray, Utah to James Edward and Nanna Eveline Hakanson Powell. Married Ernest LeRoy Madsen June 7, 1927 in Murray, UT. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1976.

Evelyn graduated from Murray High School and from the University of Utah in Elementary Education. She was an active member of the Murray Women's Club where she once served as president. She was a member of the Murray Garden Club, and also worked for the USO during the war. Evelyn was very talented in music and played the organ in church and also sang. She played the piano in several local bands. Evelyn and Ernie were known throughout Murray because they were owners and operators of Madsen's Hardware.

Survivors: children; Janice (Max) Graehl, Gayle Cooley, two grandchildren; Phillip Madsen Graehl, James Edmond Graehl, one great-grandchild, Matthew Haupt Graehl, and a brother; Grant David Powell. Preceded in death by a son-in-law L. Keith Cooley.

Funeral services Mon. 11 a.m., July 30, 2001 at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State St., where friends may call one hr. prior to services. Interment Midvale City Cemetery.
